Tunisia's Kumulus Water Secures $3.5 Million Seed Round for Off-Grid Water Technology
Kumulus Water, an innovative WaterTech startup operating between France and Tunisia, has successfully raised $3.5 million in a seed funding round.
This substantial investment aims to accelerate the development and scale-up of its groundbreaking atmospheric water generation (AWG) technology, which transforms air humidity into safe, potable drinking water.
The seed round saw broad participation from a diverse group of investors, including French public investment bank Bpifrance (via France 2030 SGPI and the Île-de-France Region), regional venture capital firms like PlusVC, Khalys Venture, and Flat6Labs, as well as Spadel, a leading European bottled water company.
Additionally, several European and North African family offices and prominent startup founders contributed to the round, underscoring strong confidence in Kumulus Water's mission to address global water scarcity.
Pioneering Off-Grid Water Production
Founded in 2021 by Iheb Triki and Mohamed Ali Abid, Kumulus Water designs and builds self-contained Atmospheric Water Generators (AWGs).
These innovative machines operate independently of existing water and electricity infrastructure, making them an ideal solution for underserved areas and regions facing severe water stress.
Kumulus Water's technology works by drawing in ambient air, filtering out pollutants, and then cooling it to condense moisture into clean water, mimicking the natural process of dew formation.
The collected water is then purified through a multi-stage filtration system and mineralized to enhance taste and health benefits.
The company has already made significant strides, deploying units in various settings including schools, hotels, and remote communities across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Each standard unit can produce between 20 to 30 liters of high-quality drinking water daily and can be powered by either standard electricity or solar energy. These deployments highlight the versatility and critical demand for their climate-resilient water solutions.
Fueling Expansion and Industrial Scale-Up
The newly secured capital will primarily support the launch of the Kumulus Boks, a new line of high-capacity, off-grid water units designed for industrial and community use.
This expansion will allow Kumulus Water to serve a broader range of applications, from large-scale facilities to humanitarian projects and public infrastructure.
Furthermore, the funding will deepen Kumulus Water's operational footprint in its core markets of France, Spain, and Tunisia, while also preparing for strategic entry into Saudi Arabia.
The Kingdom represents a crucial market with acute water scarcity challenges and a strong drive towards sustainable infrastructure, making it a key focus for the company's growth.
